NBA insider says Patrick Dumont forced Nico Harrison to hold press conference
ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon appeared on the “Brian Windhorst and the Hoop Collective” podcast to discuss why the secretive meeting between Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison and select reporters happened.
“Because Patrick Dumont made [Harrison], because he was supposed to do it two weeks ago and for some reason he was able to push it back, he was supposed to do it before Luka came back to town,” said MacMahon.
Harrison has been widely criticized for the press conference, with some criticizing his rationale for the Doncic trade and the secrecy surrounding the event.
MacMahon called the public relations fallout disastrous and said it wasn’t getting better yet.
“It has been the worst 2 and 1/2 month run of PR that I can remember in NBA history, and I got to tell you it didn’t get better today,” said MacMahon.
On the court, the Mavs extended their season behind a massive performance from Anthony Davis in the team’s 120-106 Play-In Tournament win over the Sacramento Kings.
The Mavs will play the Memphis Grizzlies at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the FedExForum to see which team will advance to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in a best-of-seven series.
