What injury will cause Kyrie Irving to miss the remainder of the season?

The Dallas Mavericks injury list continues to grow with Kyrie Irving exiting Monday’s 122-98 loss against the Sacramento Kings early with a knee injury.

On Tuesday it was announced by ESPN’s Shams Charania that Irving tore the ACL in his left knee and would miss the remainder of the season.

Irving ended the season averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.

Irving suffered the injury in the first quarter of the game on a drive to the basket where his foot landed on the foot of Kings center Jonas Valančiūnas before landing awkwardly on his left leg and falling to the ground. Irving didn’t attempt to get up and had to be helped to his feet.

Despite needing help getting up, Irving went to the free-throw line to shoot his attempts before heading to the locker room, where MVP chants from the American Airlines Center crowd serenaded him.

After the game Mavs head coach Jason Kidd praised his team for continuing to fight despite losing several key players to injury.

“it’s the character of that group in there, they’re going to fight to the end. We’re going to continue to keep developing no matter who’s in a jersey, we’re going to go out there to try to find a way to win,” said Kidd.

Kidd spoke on Irving’s injury though the team did not provide any official updates.

“Just unlucky, you know, hope that he’s healthy, that it’s not serious,” said Kidd, “The injuries that we’ve had this season guys are trying to hold it together to get other bodies back, And then it just seems every time we’re getting close to get someone back, someone goes down. And tonight both Hardy and [Irving] go down and so we’re running out of bodies here.”
