Dallas Mavericks lose big man for several months due to foot fracture

According to an ESPN report by Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks’ injury woes have continued. Big man Derrick Lively II has been out with a fractured foot for two to three months.

Lively was injured playing the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 14, another injury for the Duke product who has had several injuries since being drafted by the Mavs with the No. 12 pick in the 2023 Draft.

Lively has suffered ankle sprains, a neck sprain and a shoulder sprain over his first two years in the NBA and even before entering the league suffered a calf injury that hampered him while at Duke.

The Mavs will rely on Daniel Gafford to help blunt the impact of Lively’s loss.

Lively is the latest key Dallas player to be sidelined by injury with stars Luka Doncic and star Kyrie Irving missing time this season.

The Mavs currently sport a record of 23-20 good for seventh place in the Western Conference.

The Mavs will play next against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at American Airlines Center.
