Former Fort Worth restaurateur buying NBA team for billions, reports say

SMU alum Tom Dundon plans to buy the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers from the estate of Paul Allen for more than $4 billion and intends to keep the team in Portland, according to reports.

Dundon, who once operated a restaurant near TCU in Fort Worth named Izzy’s, made his fortune in financial services, real estate and sports entertainment. One such company is TopGolf, of which Dundon is one of the largest individual shareholders.

He also is the chairman of Dundon Capital Partners, a financial services company located in Dallas.

Dundon is no stranger to owning professional sports teams; he also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.

The Trail Blazers are valued at $3.65 billion per CNBC, making them the 22nd-most valuable franchise in the NBA.
