Texas Rangers star a possible trade target for Boston Red Sox, report says

In the past two seasons the Texas Rangers have traded their first baseman (Nathaniel Lowe) and second baseman (Marcus Semien) from their 2023 World Series championship team.

Could shortstop Corey Seager be next?

According to the Boston Globe, the Boston Red Sox have contacted the Rangers about trading for the two-time World Series MVP.

Seager played the fewest games (102) of his Rangers tenure last year and finished the season batting .271 with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs. It was the only season he hasn’t been selected as an All-Star since joining Texas in 2022.

The 31-year-old is still one of the game’s best shortstops and one of its most clutch players and could help provide a huge offensive upgrade for the Red Sox. For his career, Seager is batting .289 with 221 home runs.

When the Rangers traded for former New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (in exchange for Semien), he said he only agreed to waive his no-trade clause because the Rangers were trying to compete for another World Series title, not rebuilding.

But if they were to trade Seager, it could signal at least a retooling for the franchise.
