Texas Rangers trade All-Star, continue demolition of 2023 World Series team
The Texas Rangers traded second baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets for outfielder Brandon Nimmo, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Semien has spent the past four seasons with the Rangers, earning two All-Star selections, a Silver Slugger and Golden Glove and finshing third in the AL MVP voting during the 2023 season when the Rangers won their first World Series championship.
Semien is the latest member of that team to leave the Rangers this offseason, joining manager Bruce Bochy, catcher Jonah Heim and outfielder Adolis Garcia, after the team finished 81-81 and missed the playoffs for a second straight season.
Semien had his worst year as a Ranger last season, hitting .230 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs. In 2023, Semien hit .276 with 29 homers and 100 RBIs.
Rangers don’t tender offers to Adolis Garcia, Jonah Heim
The Rangers did not tender offers to Garcia and Heim, who are now free agents. Last season, Garcia hit .227 with 19 home runs and 75 RBIs, and Heim hit .213 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs.
Bochy and the Rangers agreed to part ways, and the skipper has reunited with the San Francisco Giants, the franchise he led to three World Series titles, in an advisory role.
Nimmo hit .262 with a career-high 25 home runs and 92 RBIs last season and should help replace Garcia in the outfield.
