First time since 2018: Only one Texas Ranger selected for MLB All-Star Game

For the first time since 2018, the Texas Rangers have just one player on the American League roster for the All-Star Game.

Veteran right-handed pitcher Jacob deGrom was selected for his fifth-career All-Star Game. The announcement came on Sunday during a special presentation of the final rosters on ESPN. This is deGrom’s first All-Star selection since 2021 and his first as a Texas Ranger.

DeGrom was selected via player voting and finished fifth among AL starting pitchers. No other Ranger placed among player voting. DeGrom’s selection marks the sixth-straight year that a Rangers pitcher has made the All-Star game roster and the third-straight year that a Ranger received an All-Star selection via player voting.

DeGrom is currently 9-2 this season with a 2.13 ERA. He is tied for second in the American League in ERA, and is fourth in opponents’ batting average, holding opposing hitters to a .191 average. DeGrom’s 2.13 ERA is the best by a Rangers’ pitching heading into the All-Star Break since Rick Honeycutt in 1982.

Other Rangers could be added to the American League roster if players opt not to play or are on the injured list.

The 95th installation of the MLB All-Star Game will be on Tuesday, July 15, at the Atlanta Braves’ Truist Park. The game will be televised nationally on Fox at 7 p.m. CT.
