Savannah Bananas bringing one of the most popular brands in baseball to Texas
The Savannah Bananas are one of the most popular draws in baseball and will bring their unique flavor to Texas with several stops scheduled for the Lone Star State in early September.
The team, which is to baseball what the Harlem Globetrotters are to basketball, will play four games in Texas.
The team has drawn multitudes of fans and media attention for their out-of-the-box approach to baseball and their focus on wackiness and hijinks throughout the game.
The team is known for having outfielders do back flips while making a catch, having umpires that dance along with the music or players taking their at-bats on stilts, all while amassing 9.5 million followers on TikTok.
The franchise was started by Jesse and Emily Cole in 2015 and struggled to sell tickets initially, with the team’s accounts being overdrawn, however, a name change to the Savannah Bananas put the team on the map nationally and helped them turn things around, selling out their first home game after the name change.
The Savannah Bananas are on the “Banana Ball World Tour,” which will first stop in Texas at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, at Rider Field in Frisco for a two-game series between the Texas Tailgaters and the Party Animals.
Ten games from the “Banana Ball World Tour” will air on ESPN throughout the summer, starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Memorial Stadium.
The Texas Tailgaters are a new team added by the Bananas as the fifth team in the league alongside the Party Animals, the Firefighters and the Visitors.
The two teams will reunite in San Antonio from Sept. 12-13 at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium and then again from Sept. 19-20 at Dell Diamond.
The Tailgaters will play the Bananas on Sept. 26 at Daikin Park in Houston.
Fans looking to purchase tickets directly from the Savannah Bananas are out of luck as the team operates on a lottery system for tickets and this season’s ticket opportunities are closed, though fans can get put on an interest list to learn about future ticket availability.
