Texas Rangers announce new pitcher’s signing as Jon Gray heads to 60-day injured list
The Texas Rangers announced the signing of pitcher Patrick Corbin on Tuesday to a one-year contract.
The Rangers moved pitcher Jon Gray to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster. Gray suffered a right forearm fracture which he injured after being hit by a line drive in a March 14 game against the Colorado Rockies. He will be re-evaluated after a six-week no-throwing period.
Gray is not the only Rangers starting pitcher injured heading into the 2025 season.
Cody Bradford is suffering from elbow soreness and was sidelined on March 15 and will be evaluated in four weeks.
After the team suffered the injuries Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter were possible solutions and mentioned outside options. That’s where Corbin’s signing comes in.
Heading into his 13th season after spending the last six seasons of his career with the Washington Nationals, Corbin is a two-time all-star. He posted a 6-13 record with a 5.62 ERA in 174.2 innings in 2024.
Corbin was drafted out of Chipola College by the Los Angeles Angels with the 80th selection in the 2009 draft.
From 2019-24 Corbin was one of the most durable pitchers in baseball with only two pitchers logging more starts than the New York native.
