Texas Rangers

Earlier weekend starts for Texas Rangers games another bonus of Globe Life Field roof

The roof at Globe Life Field will give baseball fans a break from the summer sun and soaring temperatures. The players on the field will enjoy that, too.

It will also give the Texas Rangers and their opponents earlier starts a few times per homestand than in the past, as is evident in the game times that have been added to the Rangers’ 2020 schedule.

MLB released the full schedule Wednesday, and the Rangers are moving Saturday home games up an hour to 6:05 p.m. and shaving 30 minutes from previous Sunday start times to 1:35 p.m.

“Globe Life Field gives us the option to have earlier start times on weekends,” Rangers executive vice president Rob Matwick said. “We think these adjustments will be very convenient for our fans.”

There are a few exceptions. Three Saturday games will start at 3:05 p.m. to avoid the national TV window, including July 4 against the Chicago White Sox. The Rangers will also host three day games at 3:05 p.m., including the 2020 home opener March 31 against the Los Angeles Angels.

The other two are also notable: April 15 vs. the New York Yankees and May 28 against the Washington Nationals, the reigning world champions.

For the most part, though, most weekday home games will begin at 7:05 p.m. with weekday day games at 1:05 p.m. The season finale Sept. 27 will start at 2:05 p.m., as mandated by MLB.
