Comparing Ingrid Andress’ national anthem performance to other panned performances

Teoscar Hernandez won the 2024 Home Run Derby on Monday night at Globe Life Field, but most of the conversation online after the event was about the performance of the national anthem by Ingrid Andress’.

The four-time Grammy Award nominee struggled through the song even earning laughter from Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm who participated in the derby.

Was it this the worst rendition of the national anthem heard on live television? Here are five other candidates:

Carl Lewis

Lewis was performing the anthem in 1993 at a game between the Chicago Bulls and the New Jersey Nets and was so bad he prompted ESPN Anchor Charlie Steiner to call him Francis Scott “Off-Key,” a riff on national anthem creator Francis Scott Key.

Roseanne Barr

The popular sitcom star also “sang” her version of the national anthem at a baseball game, between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds to vociferous boos.

Fergie

The performances of Lewis and Barr can be understood as neither are professional singers but Fergie, an artist with multiple platinum plaques broke the internet when she sang The Star Spangled Banner at an NBA All-Star game prompting laughs from Draymond Green among other players.

Hamilton County Deputy Ezra Harris

Deputy Harris forgot the words almost immediately after beginning the song eliciting laughs from his fellow officers.

Flavor Flav

A member of the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, Flavor Flav sang the national anthem before a Milwaukee Bucks game and it became clear why he rose to fame as of rap group Public Enemy and not a singing quartet.
