Colonial preparing to host 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge under ‘normal conditions’
The PGA Tour’s annual stop in Fort Worth is back to normal.
Officials for the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club announced that it would return to normal conditions after the previous two tournaments dealt with pandemic-related issues.
The 2020 Colonial had no fans as it marked the PGA Tour’s return to golf after the sports world was shut down for weeks early on during the COVID-19 pandemic. And the 2021 tournament had reduced crowds with a limited number of fans who purchased pricey all-inclusive tickets.
This year’s tournament returns to pre-pandemic operating procedures with tickets going on sale this week.
“We are excited about the opportunity to stage a tournament under normal conditions for our fans and sponsors after the last two difficult years,” tournament chairman Jim Whitten said in a news release. “We have simplified things in a lot of ways, specifically for the purpose of providing a truly memorable experience for all who attend.”
Single-day grounds tickets for tournament rounds (May 26-29) are available for $85 in the tournament’s first release of 3,000 tickets per day. Once that allotment is sold, prices will go up to $100 per day.
A limited number of tickets for Wednesday’s pro-am are also available for $50.
For fans interested in a more premium experience such as what was offered last year, there are two all-inclusive ticket packages. A “villages ticket” is being offered for $325 per day (only 400 are available per day) with setups at holes 8/9/12, 13 and 16. And a “patio ticket” that grants access to the clubhouse and the patio overlooking No. 16 green and No. 17 tee (as well as the “villages” areas on the course) is available for $575 per day.
The “patio” tickets are sold out for Friday with a limited number available Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. More information on the ticket packages and to purchase tickets is available on the tournament’s website www.charlesschwabchallenge.com.
The Colonial is entering its 76th year. Jason Kokrak is the defending champion and is among the early commitments for the 2022 event.
Other notable players already on the commitment list include hometown favorites Tom Hoge and Ryan Palmer, as well as former Colonial champions Kevin Na, Kevin Kisner, Zach Johnson and Chris Kirk.
ClubCorp Classic
The PGA Tour Champions is returning to DFW next month and tickets recently went on sale for the ClubCorp Classic at Las Colinas Country Club in Irving. The tournament is scheduled April 19-24.
The tournament features players from the PGA Tour Champions (50 and older) as well as sports and entertainment celebrities. Among the notable “celebrities” scheduled to take part include former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Cowboys greats Emmitt Smith and DeMarcus Ware, and Texas Rangers Hall of Famer Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.
