PGA Tour pairs the world’s No. 1, 2 and 3 together for opening rounds of Colonial
The Charles Schwab Challenge has plenty of star power as the PGA Tour resumes its season this in Fort Worth amid the coronavirus pandemic.
That much is clear with four featured groupings for the opening rounds released by the PGA Tour on Sunday. Tournament rounds begin on Thursday at Colonial Country Club.
One grouping will feature the top three players in the world with Rory McIlory (No. 1), Jon Rahm (No. 2) and Brooks Koepka (No. 3). McIlroy will be making his Colonial debut and will be looking to become the first player to win his first start at the event since Sergio Garcia won in 2001.
The fourth-ranked player in the world, Justin Thomas, is also making his Colonial debut this week. He’s been paired with other golf stars Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.
No. 5-ranked Dustin Johnson will play with 2018 Colonial champion Justin Rose, who is ranked No. 14 in the world, and Bryson DeChambeau, who is ranked No. 13.
This the first year the event has landed the top-five ranked players in the world.
Another featured group is two-time Colonial champ Phil Mickelson, defending champion Kevin Na and reigning U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland.
A full list of the players in the field can be found on the tournament’s website. Tee times and other pairings are expected to be released later in the week.
The Golf Channel will televise the opening rounds on Thursday and Friday with CBS airing the final rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
