The AT&T Byron Nelson has a new home for 2021 and beyond
The AT&T Bryon Nelson has found its next home, reaching a verbal agreement to play its tournament at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney starting in 2021, sources confirmed.
AT&T Byron Nelson officials have yet to formally announce the agreement — which is said to be five years — although that is expected to happen later this week.
The Nelson had been looking for a new home after deciding to move from Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. The Nelson played its 2018 and 2019 tournaments at Trinity Forest, and was scheduled to play the 2020 event there May 7-10 until it was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Trinity Forest never panned out, drawing the ire of fans and players alike.
Before moving to Trinity Forest, the Nelson’s longtime home had been the TPC Four Seasons in Irving. It hosted the event from 1983 to 2017, and was under consideration to host it again in 2021.
But the Salesmanship Club, which runs the Nelson, opted for TPC Craig Ranch. It’s a familiar venue for the Salesmanship Club, which used the location for the Korn Ferry Tour’s 2008 and 2012 Tour Championships.
Matt Bettencourt won the 2008 tournament with a score of 17-under, while Justin Bolli won the 2012 event at 16-under.
The private course, which opened in 2004, was designed by 1973 British Open champion Tom Weiskopf.
Avid Golfer was the first to report the Nelson was moving to Craig Ranch.
