Local Fort Worth boxer set to fight for WBO featherweight world championship

Fort Worth native Edward “Kid,” Vasquez (17-2, 4 KOs) will fight against Rafael Espinoza (26-0, 22 KOs) in a WBO Featherweight World Championship match on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The pair will be a co-feature on the fight card with Naoya Inoue and San Antonio native Ramon Cardenas.

Vasquez lost the first title fight of his career in a closely contested split decision to Joe Cordina for the IBF junior lightweight championship.

Before his IBF title fight, Vasquez said he could’ve never imagined fighting for a world title in Monaco and now ahead of his second world title match he says the date can’t arrive quickly enough.

“May 4 can’t get here soon enough. I started boxing at eight years old and have been a pro for over nine years. Nothing has ever been handed to me. I earned this opportunity. Espinoza is a fantastic fighter and a deserving champion, but he has never stepped into the ring with someone like [me],” said Vasquez.

Tickets for the Naoya Inoue and San Antonio native Ramon Cardenas. and start at $206.
