Jake Paul earns unanimous decision over Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium

Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) won by unanimous decision over Mike Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) in eight rounds on Friday at AT&T Stadium.

Paul joined James Douglas, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Danny Williams and Kevin McBride as the sixth man to beat Tyson in a professional fight.

Tyson started aggressively in the first two rounds, pressing Paul at times, but the YouTube star responded with a strong third round and dominated from the third round on, keeping the former heavyweight champion at bay for much of the rest of the match.

Paul stated Tyson never phased him because of his preparation for the fight.

“I was just so prepared. I’ve gone through the moment so many times in my head and meditation and stuff like that, so it didn’t phase me. And I just felt at home,” said Paul.

The 31-year age difference between the two boxers was the largest in pro boxing history, surpassing the record set by Archie Moore and Mike DiBiase.

Paul said in the later rounds Tyson’s age started to show and that he took his foot off the gas.

“Yeah, definitely, definitely a bit, I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt someone that didn’t need to be hurt,” said Paul, “There was a point where, you know, I was just like, okay, he’s not really engaging back. And so I don’t know if he’s tired or whatever, and I could just tell, you know, his age was showing a little bit, and I just have so much respect for him.”

“22 days ago I completely sprained my ankle,” said Paul,”It just made everything mentally more difficult to go into the ring with a sprained ankle, having to tape it up. And I missed about two weeks of sparring. So I really only sparred one or two times before this fight, and that’s why my cardio didn’t feel as good in there tonight. But you just roll with the punches and fight through those things.”

This was Tyson’s first official fight since he suffered a sixth-round TKO against McBride in June 2005. Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition match in 2020.

After the fight and despite the loss Tyson still wasn’t ready to say his fight with Paul would be his last.
