North Texas will host these two European soccer teams during the World Cup
The Czech Republic and Sweden national soccer teams can book their stays in North Texas for the World Cup.
The Czechs and Swedes defended their home turf to claim two of the final spots in the World Cup field with victories in playoffs Tuesday. The Czech Republic defeated Denmark 3-1 in a shootout after a 2-2 draw in extra time in Prague to take the final spot in Group A, while Sweden defeated Poland 3-2 in Stockholm to earn the final spot in Group F.
Local World Cup organizers had already announced that the winners of these playoffs would be making their World Cup “base camps” in North Texas, the sites where the teams would primarily be training and staying at during the tournament June 11 to July 19.
The Czech Republic will train at the new Mansfield Stadium, future home of the North Texas Soccer Club, while Sweden will be based out of at Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas.
Sweden’s victory also fills the last piece of the puzzle for the group stage matches being played at AT&T Stadium (known as Dallas Stadium for the World Cup for sponsorship reasons).
The Swedes will take on Japan at 6 p.m. June 25 at AT&T Stadium.
Here is the complete schedule of group stage matches at AT&T Stadium, which will also host four matches in the knockout round, including a semifinal:
June 14: Netherlands vs. Japan (Group F), 3 p.m.
June 17: England vs. Croatia (Group L), 3 p.m.
June 22: Argentina vs. Austria (Group J), noon
June 25: Japan vs. Sweden (Group F), 6 p.m.
‘June 27: Argentina vs. Jordan (Group J), 9 p.m.
