World Cup base camps: 2 of these 8 teams are coming to North Texas
There are 100 days until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Mansfield and Frisco will both be taking part in the action: serving as base camps for two national teams at FC Dallas and Mansfield Stadium.
The North Texas FWC Organizing Committee announced the decision on Tuesday at FC Dallas Stadium, with the mayor of each city in attendance as well as organizing committee president Monica Paul and FC Dallas president Dan Hunt.
“We had multiple facilities and cities across the region and put together worthy proposals to FIFA, international teams, and we are honored by not just one, but two sites were chosen,” Paul said. “We know that both the city of Frisco and Mansfield will welcome each national team with open arms and show our true Texas hospitality. Congratulations to both cities, stadiums, the staff that worked diligently on securing these base camps for our region.”
With the sites chosen, the next question is which teams will be hosted?
Each site has four teams that are competing for World Cup berths.
FC Dallas Stadium will host the winner of UEFA Play-Off Path B, which includes Albania, Poland, Sweden and Ukraine.
Mansfield Stadium will host the winner of UEFA Play-Off Path D, which includes the Czech Republic, Denmark, North Macedonia and the Republic of Ireland.
Hunt talked about how much of an achievement it was to secure the two base camps.
“This is a major accomplishment,” he said. “Obviously, we have Group B coming here to Frisco to Toyota Stadium, soccer center. Group D going to Mansfield for that beautiful new stadium. We are thrilled to welcome one of these busy national teams here. I know they’ll have a great experience.
“... I think this really allows us to deliver on the promise that Dallas-Fort Worth is truly the epicenter of World Cup 2026 with nine matches, the International Broadcast Center and now two visiting national teams that will use this as the base camp. There is no community that can say they have more World Cup-centric activities than the Metroplex.”
Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans said he’s excited to show off what Texas has to offer.
“It’s that kind of a place, an old town village kind of a feel, and they’re going to get that in Mansfield,” he said. “I think that’s going to be one of the attractions for one of those national teams and for all of their followers. When they come to our city they’re gonna get that vibe, and they’ll see that, it’s a place that they’ll want to hang out for a while.”
