Boise State lands verbal commitment in Class 5A all-state wide receiver from Azle
Azle senior wide receiver Eric Mcalister announced his commitment to Boise State on Friday. He chose the Broncos over Wisconsin, Nebraska, San Diego State, Virginia Tech, Utah and Wyoming.
“The past six years in Azle have been life changing. I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities,” he said in a tweet. “With that being said, I’m ready to be a bronco.”
The 6-4 prospect was offered by Boise State on Aug. 1, his most recent offer. He made 62 catches for 1,449 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2019 as the Hornets captured the district title for the second straight year.
Mcalister averaged 121 yards per game and 23.8 yards per reception last season. He caught at least one touchdown in 11 of 12 games and had 100 yards receiving in six games, including a season-best 218 yards and four TDs vs. Brewer.
Mcalister exploded onto the scene after a sophomore season that produced 21 catches, 285 yards and four TDs. Last season, he was voted first-team all-district and Class 5A AP first-team all-state.
The 3-star prospect is ranked as the No. 63 WR in the nation and No. 62 overall player in Texas among the Class of 2021 by 247Sports. He was also ranked as the No. 15 player in the Fort Worth area during the 2020 season.
The Hornets, who have gone 10-2 in back-to-back years, will host Keller Fossil Ridge to open the season Sept. 25.
