Richardson Pearce assistant named next football coach at Fort Worth Carter-Riverside

Richardson Pearce assistant Philip Murray was named head football coach at Fort Worth Carter-Riverside Saturday morning, according to Dave Campbell’s Matt Stepp.

Murray replaces Jim Jeffries, who retired in December after 16 seasons. He’s in his 12th year of teaching and joined Pearce this year as a football and track coach.

Pearce posted a 5-6 record in 2019. The Mustangs went 4-3 in District 8-6A.

The Mustangs finished fourth in district. They lost 38-20 in the first round of the playoffs against Cedar Hill.

Murray will look to turnaround the Eagles, who have lost 27 straight games.

The Eagles last won, 17-0, against Diamond Hill-Jarvis on Sept. 15, 2017. They’ve also lost the last 24 district games with their last win, 33-0, against Polytechnic on Sept. 29, 2016.

Carter-Riverside moved down to Class 4A during the next realignment. The Eagles were reclassified into District 6-4A District 1 with Benbrook, Dunbar, Eastern Hills, Western Hills, Diamond Hill-Jarvis, Kennedale and Castleberry.
