Southlake Carroll 4-year starter RJ Mickens signs NLI with national champion Clemson

Southlake Carroll 4-star DB RJ Mickens signed his national letter of intent with Clemson University on Wednesday during the early signing period.

Mickens, who has started at SLC all four years, committed to Clemson in April over Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Miami and Michigan.

Overall, Mickens picked up 31 offers, including 27 from a Power Five school.

Mickens is ranked as the No. 7 safety in the nation and No. 15 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports. He’s also the 118th ranked high school football player in the country.

According to MaxPreps, Mickens has recorded 211 tackles, eight interceptions and 32 pass deflections in 45 career games with the Dragons.

On the offensive side, Mickens played wide receiver and made 61 catches for 1,092 yards and 14 touchdowns in three years. He had nine TDs as a sophomore.

Mickens was voted first-team 6A all-state in 2017 and all-state honorable mention last season.

In four years, SLC has gone 46-8 with a trip to the state quarterfinals in three straight seasons. The Dragons have gone 13-1 and won the district title the past two seasons.

Clemson is one of the top programs in the country. The Tigers won the national championship last season over Alabama. The Tigers have a 68-4 record with an appearance in the college football playoff during the past five seasons.

Clemson also won the national championship in 2016.

The Tigers, who have won their last 28 games, face Ohio State in the first round on Dec. 28.
