The top ranked 2020 safety in the nation is from DFW and now committed to Clemson

Southlake Carroll’s RJ Mickens, the No. 1 ranked 2020 safety in the nation according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to Clemson via Twitter on Saturday.

Clemson was one of 11 Mickens had in his final group which also included Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Florida, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Miami and Michigan.

Mickens is a 4-star safety with 31 offers. He is ranked as the fifth overall prospect in the state. He’s also ranked as the No. 42 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

According to 247Sports’ crystal ball predictions, Ohio State was the front-runner to land Mickens at 50 percent. Clemson was second at 33 percent.

In three seasons, Mickens has amassed nearly 200 tackles with seven interceptions, seven forced fumbles and 29 deflections. He’s played WR the past two years with nearly 1,000 yards receiving and 12 TDs to show for it.

Clemson beat Alabama in January to win the national championship.
