Irving’s two first-half TDs just enough to get Timber Creek by Eaton
Keller Timber Creek running back Blake Irving had scores of 5 and 2-yards, respectively, both in the first half, as they held off Northwest Eaton Thursday night, 14-6, at Northwest ISD Stadium.
Irving’s two scores were accompanied by only 38 yards rushing, but it was both defenses that kept the game close as there were only 286 yards of total offense in the entire game. Irving got the scoring started late in the first quarter, a 5-yard run, giving Timber Creek (2-2) the 7-0 lead, heading into the second. Irving again had a late touchdown run, this time from 2-yards out, as they increased the lead to 14-0. But Northwest Eaton kicker Dakota Lamb connected on a 35-yard field goal, shortly before the half, pulling them to within 14-3.
Starting the second half, Eaton (3-1) put their run game on the back of Titus Swen, who finished with 87 yards on the night, by far the offensive leader on the ground, as their first third-quarter drive went 38 yards in five plays, before Lamb had his second field goal of the night, this time a 36-yarder, and at the end of the third quarter, Timber Creek led 14-6.
The fourth quarter was all defense, but the Eaton offense had the better of it, but it wasn’t till the final minutes when they made their comeback attempt. Following an errant punt that gave them the ball at the Timber Creek 28 yard line, quarterback Kobe Freeman, had only his second completion of the night, finding Ebere Claggett to the Timber Creek 18’. But, following a timeout, the Timber Creek defense sacked Freeman on back to back plays, forcing an end zone incompletion, on fourth down to secure the win.

Play of the game: Back to back sacks put the Eaton offense at their own 41-yard line with under a minute to go, from what was a 1st-and-10 Eaton at the Timber Creek 18-yard line.
Offensive player of the game: Black Irving rushed for two short touchdowns in the first half for Timber Creek, finishing with thirty-eight yards on the ground..
Defensive player of the game: Timber Creek’s Gabe Jones earns the nod with an interception late in the third quarter that killed an Eaton drive in their zone.
Unsung hero of the game: The Eaton and Timber Creek defenses earn the honor as there was only a total of 286 yards of offense on the night.
Stat of the Game: Unfortunately it would have to be the penalties for Timber Creek as they finished with 9 for 96 yards.
