Arlington Martin gives up 73 points in loss to Rockwall
Jacob Clark threw for 262 yards with three touchdowns while Zach Henry led the rushing attack with 129 yards on 16 carries, as the Rockwall (2-1) rolled up 551 yards of total offense in a 73-32 win over Arlington Martin (0-3) at UT-Arlington’s Mavericks Stadium.
Rockwall jumped out to a 15-0 lead before the Warriors could run an offensive play. Clark threw a 44 yard touchdown pass to Isiah Mathis on the game’s opening series. The Yellow Jackets recovered a squib kick on the kickoff and took over at the Martin 49 yard line. Seven plays later, Clark ran for a seven-touchdown with 8:09 to play in the first quarter.
Martin rallied with a pair of touchdowns to close out the first quarter. Montrell scored on a 45 yard touchdown run and Zach Mundell threw a 32 yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wallace to cut the Warriors deficit to 22-14.
Play of the game: Rockwall led 29-14 early in the second quarter when Martin threatened to cut the deficit to one score with the ball at the Yellow Jackets’ nine-yard line. The Yellows Jackets’ Anfernee Orji picked off a deflected pass and ran it back 95 yards for a touchdown to push Rockwall’s lead to 36-14.
Game was over when: Leading 43-32 in the third quarter, Rockwall scored 16 consecutive points to put the game away. Clark touchdown passes of 34 yards to Henry and 46 yards to J.J. Williams. Landry Poppens’ 21 yard field goal put Rockwall 59-32 after three quarters.
Offensive player of the game: Clark completed 16 of 28 passes on his way to 262 yards through the air. Montrell Smith led Martin’s rushing attack with 100 yards on 14 carries.
Defensive player of the game: Rockwall grabbed four interceptions on the night, highlighted by Orji’s 90-yard return.
Big picture outlook: Rockwall rolls into district play with a powerful offense, having scored at least 42 points in every game. Martin is still looking for its first win of the season.
