Jordan Williams with three first-half TDs to lead Lamar past Richland
Arlington Lamar senior running back Jordan Williams punched in three first-half touchdowns as the Vikings rode a dominant first half to a 38-8 non-district win over the Richland Rebels at the Birdville FAAC Thursday night.
Williams and the Vikings (3-0) put points on the board on each of their first five possessions, including three short TD runs from Williams. When Lamar wasn’t rolling up 203 yards on the ground, quarterback Jack Dawson was peppering the Rebel (2-2) secondary with a 251-yard passing performance that added two more touchdowns.
GAME WAS OVER WHEN: Lamar answered Richland’s only first half score with a 17-point second quarter that included a 56-yard TD pass from Dawson to Cam Brady.
PLAY OF THE GAME: A 43-yard touchdown pass from Richland quarterback Gavin Colopy to Brady Boyd that would have cut the Vikings lead down to 13 points before the half was called back for an ineligible receiver penalty.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Williams was a workhorse, running the ball 25 times for 147 yards and three touchdowns.
DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME: Lamar’s front seven was active all night, continually chasing Rebel quarterback Gavin Colopy out of the pocket and holding Richland to just 129 yards on the ground.
UNSUNG HERO OF THE GAME: Richland wide receiver Rashee Rice accounted for over half the Rebels’ offense, hauling in eight passes for 183 yards. His 70-yard snag in the first quarter set up Richland’s only score.
