Scottie Colis and Colione Evans lead Fossil Ridge to big-time victory over Hebron

Scottie Colis threw for 242 yards and Colione Evans added 104 yards rushing as Keller Fossil Ridge (2-1) finished up non-district play by giving Hebron (2-1) its first loss in a match-up at Keller ISD Stadium, 37-17.

Hebron took the early lead when Carson Harris broke free for a 45 yard touchdown in the first quarter. Fossil Ridge stayed close with a pair of field goals and scored its first touchdown on Colis’ 53 yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Hearst with 2:02 remaining before halftime.

Hearst stretched Fossil Ridge’s lead to 23-10 when he scored on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Colis midway through the third quarter. Harris answered for Hebron with a 2-yard touchdown to cut Hebron’s deficit to 23-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

Game was over when: With Fossil Ridge leading 30-17 in the fourth quarter, Hearst pulled in an over the shoulder pass from Colis while straddling the sideline for a 33 yard reception at the Hebron 4 yard line. The play set up Brandon Lewis’ four-yard touchdown for the final score with 6:59 left to play.

Play of the game: Hebron recovered an onside kick after Harris’ touchdown in the third quarter only to see the play called back on a penalty. Fossil Ridge took the ensuing kickoff and scored six plays later on Evans’ 17 yard touchdown run.

Offensive player of the game: Jaylen Hearst finished with eight receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Harris led Hebron with 163 rushing yards on 18 carries in the loss.

Special teams player of the game: Fossil Ridge’s Eduardo Mercado kicked three field goals, including a 44-yarder with 0:10 left before halftime.

Big picture outlook: Fossil Ridge heads into its bye week on a high note after giving an undefeated Hebron team its first loss.

What’s next? Hebron has a bye week before opening district play at Irving Nimitz on September 28th, with a 7:00 kickoff at Irving Schools Stadium. Fossil Ridge will take on Trophy Club Byron Nelson to open district play on September 28th at Northwest ISD Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
