Nick Prouix ran for 251 yards and scored four touchdowns and the Gail Borden County defense forced four fumbles in leading the Coyotes to back-to-back Class A Division I (Six-man) championships, this time 60-22 over Jonesboro on Wednesday at AT&T Stadium.

Borden County capped off an undefeated 15-0 season by clinching the title, the fifth in school history, before a crowd of 4,482. The Coyotes defeated Jonesboro in last year’s state championship, 60-12.

Jonesboro (13-2) led 22-16 in the second quarter, but Borden County scored 44 unanswered points — and outscored Jonesboro 36-0 in the third quarter — behind three third-quarter fumbles by the Eagles.

Prouix, the game’s Offensive MVP, had touchdown runs of 64, 55, 42 and 2 yards. The senior’s 42-yard touchdown run gave the Coyotes the lead for good at 24-22 with 5:09 left in the half.

Jonesboro fumbled and turned the ball over at the 1-yard line with one minute to go in the second quarter when they trailed 24-22.

Ben Justice, who recovered three of the four Jonesboro fumbles in the game, was named the Defensive MVP. Justice also had a 40-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, increasing the Coyotes’ lead to 48-22 in the third quarter.
