Mansfield Lake Ridge sophomore Chandler Rogers entered Friday night with 84 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the season.

In a game for the final District 10-5A playoff berth, the backup quarterback had a career night with seven touchdown runs to help the Eagles rally and defeat Waxahachie 63-49 at Lumpkins Stadium.

Lake Ridge (6-4, 4-3 in 10-5A) will enter the Class 5A Division I playoffs as a No. 2 seed and face Crowley (8-2) in the bi-district round, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Gopher-Warrior Bowl in Grand Prairie.

Leading 56-49 with 3:33 left, Rogers had runs of 33 and 24 yards, both on third down to seal the victory. The latter was his seventh score of the night with 1:10 to play.

Rogers, who also scored on runs of 2, 31, 12, 1, 14 and 2 yards, rushed for 157 yards after halftime. His sixth score came from the 2 to give Lake Ridge a 56-42 lead with 5:15 left.

Waxahachie (6-4, 3-4) got within seven when Bryce Salik hit Trey Jackson for a 30-yard touchdown with 3:38 remaining. The Indians, who were 6-0 and No. 6 in the AP 5A state poll on Oct. 10, ended the season with four-straight losses.

The Eagles rushed for 472 yards and gained 600 total. Darrius Lee had a game-high 203 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.

In the first half, Lake Ridge started hot after a 7-play 70-yard drive to start with Joseph Rowe scoring a 14-yard touchdown run with 10:29 in the first quarter.

After punting on its first two drives, Waxahachie scored on a 12-yard run from Eris Miles early in the second.

Rogers scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to give Lake Ridge a 14-7 lead just a minute later, but Jackson tied it for Waxahachie on the ensuing kickoff with a 71-yard return.

The Eagles went back on top on Rogers’ 14-yard run five minutes before halftime, but missed the extra point for a 20-14 lead.

Two minutes later, the Indians took their first lead of the game 21-20 on Miles’ 8-yard run and then went into halftime leading 28-20 on Kenedy Snell’s 21-yard interception return for a touchdown.
