Southlake Carroll has big second half to beat Flower Mound Marcus
Trailing at half, Southlake Carroll used the passing of Mason Holmes and the running of Audricke Gaines to come roaring back for a 33-21 win over the Marauders in a Distrct 5-6A game Friday at Marauder Stadium in Flower Mound.
Key players: Holmes passed for 246 yards with two TDs; Gaines rushed for 125 yards on 22 carries and one TD. Carroll, No. 9 in The Associated Press 6A state poll, trailed 7-3 at the half. But in the third quarter Gaines scored on a 3-yard run and Holmes connected for a 20-yard score to Jackson Davis. Marcus sophomore running back Justin Dinka scored the first-half touchdown, and he finished with 188 yards on 28 carries.
Key stat: The Dragons shut out Flower Mound Marcus in the final quarter, and got two field goals from Kole Ramage, and a 15-yard scoring reception by Davis.
Records: Carroll 6-1, 4-0 5-6A; Marcus 4-3, 2-2.
