Summit gets first District 10-5A win

Mansfield Summit’s Derek Johnson accounted for three touchdowns with rushing scores of 34 and 70 yards and a 13-yard reception from QB Brysen McKinney as the Jaguars beat Red Oak 35-7 in a District 10-5A game Thursday night at Mansfield’s Vernon Newsom Stadium.

Key players: Johnson rushed for 133 yards on just seven carries, while McKinney rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown. Summit defensive back Tony Johnson returned an interception 61 yards for a score and joined Corey Washington and Jorion Curry with interceptions. For Red Oak, Blake Sonnier rushed 23 times for 109 yards. QB Chris Bugg had the Hawks’ score on a 7-yard TD rush.

Key stat: Summit enjoyed a plus-4 turnover margin.
