Two Fort Worth high school soccer standouts score 100th career goals three days apart
The 100-goal milestone is no easy accomplishment.
Few have mastered the feat, but in the same week, two girls soccer standouts from the same school district joined the exclusive club.
Fort Worth North Side senior Lizbeth Aguero and Fort Worth South Hills senior Johana Rodriguez hit the mark just three days apart.
Aguero, who will play at Grambling State next season, scored four goals during a 7-2 win over Wyatt on March 3. She needed one to hit 100, and on her first goal of the night, Aguero beat the defender and goal keeper, and shot a low driven ball to the back post in the ninth minute.
It started with a boot from North Side GK Judith Estrada and Chloe Cardona picked it up before playing a through ball to the right corner of the field where Aguero got it.
“Scoring 100 goals was surreal. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates, coaches and family,” said Aguero, who had 103 career goals by the end of the night. “Playing soccer has opened many opportunities in life and I can’t wait to see what else I will accomplish.”
It was the fourth straight game Aguero netted three or more goals and her eighth hat trick. She extended her total to 37 on the season.
Aguero has the most goals scored at North Side for girls and boys.
Cardona assisted on two goals while Melanie Chavez and Angela Mata were credited on the second and third. Cardona, Leslie Suarez and Leslie Rodriguez also scored for the Steers, who are second in District 6-5A.
Three days later, Rodriguez (Brookhaven College) scored twice to hit her mark.
And she did it against North Side. The Scorpions, leaders of 6-5A, won 4-1.
Her first goal (No. 99) came from the left wing from 15 yards out. Rodriguez took a pass from Cristal Saldivar and placed the ball in the top right corner of the net.
No. 100 came on header after a beautiful cross from Saldivar down the right side.
Rodriguez, an all-area member the past two seasons, had 28 goals and 26 assists on the season after Friday night.
“Hitting that mark is special to me because it’s a number not many players reach. It’s a reminder of the hard work I put in each and every week, so scoring 100 goals honestly felt so amazing and of course I couldn’t do it without the help of my teammates and coaches,” she said. “I appreciate all of them.”
Rodriguez, who is believed to be just the second Lady Scorpion to score 100 career goals (Esmie Gonzales), can also hit 100 career assists this season. She sits at 97.
