Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will spend 30 days in jail after testing positive for THC (marijuana), which violated his probation stemming from a 2024 Dallas car crash.

The former Richland High School and SMU standout was arrested Tuesday and booked at 12:25 p.m. and will be released from custody on June 16, according to multiple reports.

Rice’s role in the 2024 hit-and-run crash, which resulted in multiple injuries, ended with him pleading guilty to two felony charges and being sentenced to 30 days of jail time and five years of probation.

The NFL suspended Rice for six games at the beginning of the 2025 season, and the star was forced to pay more $115,000 in restitution to the victims.

Rice was also accused by Dacoda Jones, the mother of two of his children, of domestic violence, and she took him to civil court over the matter in February. Rice was found to not have “engaged in conduct that violates the personal conduct policy” by the NFL in response to the domestic violence allegations.

Rice was drafted in the second round (No. 55 overall) by the Chiefs in 2023. He helped Kansas City win the Super Bowl as a rookie but has played in only 12 games in the past two seasons because of injuries and the suspension.

For his NFL career, he has 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Rashee Rice’s knee injury and surgery

Later Tuesday, ESPN reported that Rice recently “underwent a cleanup surgery” on his right knee.

“Now in a Dallas County jail, Rice will be unable to get the type of medical attention and rehab that could have expedited his return from last week’s surgery,” ESPN said.

Rice is still expected to be ready for training camp.
