Blake Crutsinger, the Ponder ISD assistant track coach who is in the intensive care unit after being hit by a shot put, will not attend the UIL Texas state track and field meet this week at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

However, his wife, Leslie Crutsinger, said he’ll be “there in spirit” in a Facebook post. Members of the Ponder ISD community will wear shirts in support of Blake Crutsinger as he recovers from the injury.

Leslie Crutsinger has continued to update her husband’s recovery on Facebook and has said he is sedated and is expected to remain in the ICU for several weeks.

She said he underwent surgery to help relieve pressure in his head. After several days, doctors removed his breathing tube, and he is initiating his own breaths, she said.

Blake Crutsinger’s GoFundMe has raised $38,145 to help the family with medical expenses.
