The Ponder ISD community is rallying behind coach Blake Crutsinger, who is in the intensive care unit after being hit in the head in a shot put accident during the Class 3A Region II track and field meet Saturday at Whitehouse High School.

His wife, Leslie Crutsinger, said in a Facebook post that he underwent surgery. She has been giving the community health updates and has received over 1,000 comments supporting the family and letting her know Blake Crutsinger is in the community’s prayers.

In addition to the support on social media, Ponder’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes invited the community to a group prayer Monday, bringing the community together in person.

A GoFundMe was created to help the family deal with medical bills and additional expenses. Blake Crutsinger is expected to be in the intensive care unit for a minimum of two to four weeks and possibly longer, Leslie Crutsinger said on Facebook.

As of noon Tuesday, the GoFundMe has raised $9,645.

The GoFundMe description reads:

“Our friend, a humble and dedicated coach and teacher at Ponder ISD, is someone who has touched the lives of so many students, colleagues, and families in our community. Known for his kindness, leadership, and unwavering support for others, he has always been there to lift up those around him. Recently, during the regional track meet, he was involved in a freak accident and was struck by a shot put. This unexpected event has left him in the ICU, and his family is now facing an incredibly challenging time.”

The GoFundMe description continues:

“Our goal is to come together as a community to help ease their burden so they can focus on what matters most — his healing and well-being. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to his family to cover medical bills and any other needs that arise during this difficult period.

“Thank you in advance for all of the love and support. If you are unable to give financially, please know that your prayers and positive thoughts mean the world to his family. Sharing this fundraiser with others is another way you can help. Together, we can show just how much our community cares and make a real difference for a beloved coach, teacher, and friend.”
