Trinity sweeps Midland Legacy with thrillers

Euless Trinity followed it’s dramatic, Game 1, walk-off home run by Rylan Alaniz with a 4-run top of the seventh in Game 2 that held up for an 11-10 win over Midland Legacy to sweep the Class 6A area-round series held at Brownwood High School.

Trinity (24-9-2) moves on to the regional semifinals and a date with Hebron (27-6-2) next week. Hebron disposed of Arlington Martin 3-1 and 4-1.

In Game 1, Legacy (17-16-2) had just taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Cooper Phillips led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to center before Alaniz came up with the game-winning blast.

Just as in Game 1, Legacy broke a 7-7 tie with 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-7 lead with one at bat left for the Trojans. A single by Zorian Palmore and a walk to Kason Kiro started off the seventh for Trinity and Palmore came home on an error by the pitcher on a ground ball by Phillips.

After a bases-loaded walk to Alaniz cut the lead to 10-9, John Emory came up with 2 out and singled to right to drive in 2 for an 11-10 lead. Brayden Bowers came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh for Trinity and sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a ground out to end the game.

Keller handles Odessa Permian in sweep

Senior pitcher Cole Koeninger, a Tennessee signee, helped lead Keller to a close out 9-1 win over Odessa Permian in Game 2 of their Class 6A Division I area-round series on Friday night at Lubbock Memorial High School.

Keller (33-2-2) will play Flower Mound (24-12-1) in the regional semifinals. Flower Mound beat South Grand Prairie to advance, 10-0 and 4-3.

The Indians took an early lead with 4 runs in the first inning. Jayden Moeller hit an RBI single and Maddox McCrary added a 2-run single to give Keller a 3-0 lead.

Carson Lesley scored on a double steal that extended the lead to 4-0. Bodie Davis drilled an RBI double to left field in the fourth inning that gave the Indians a 5-1 lead.

Moeller scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and McCrary singled in Lesley to make it 8-1. Maximus Segura drove in Brock Burkett with a single to right field in the sixth inning that pushed Keller’s lead to 9-1.

In Game 1 on Thursday, Logan Brown allowed 2 runs on 5 hits across 5 innings as the Indians won 10-2. Brown recorded 3 hits with 2 doubles while Koeninger went 4 for 4 with a home run.

Aledo rolls on to regional semifinals, drops Paschal

Aledo spotted Fort Worth Paschal an early lead, but the Bearcats rallied to take a 5-3 win in Game 2 at Paschal High School on Friday and sweep the Class 5A Division I series.

Aledo (33-3) awaits the winner of the Amarillo (31-4)-El Paso Bel Air (18-12) series to see who it will play in the regional semifinals next week. Amarillo leads the series 1-0 after a 7-1 win over Bel Air on Friday night.

Paschal (29-5) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when walks to Griffin Lee and Roman Jauregui to lead off the inning was followed by a bunt by Sebastian Piria that was mishandled by Luke Sandefur allowing courtesy runner Truman Shelton to score.

A sacrifice fly by Mason Jung plated Jauregui an out later to make it 2-0. Aledo battled back to take a 4-2 lead with single runs in the second, a home run by Lucas Nawrocki, and fourth innings and 2 more runs in the sixth on a double by Dylan Duran.

An RBI single by Reid Huffman gave the Bearcats some insurance in the seventh inning, but all that Paschal could muster in the bottom of the inning was a 2-out, solo home run by Owen Settle.

In Game 1 on Thursday at Aledo, Nowrocki homered and tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and no walks in shutting out Paschal 3-0. The Bearcats only got 3 hits off of Paschal’s Matthew Hernandez who went 6 innings allowing 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits with 9 Ks and no walks.

Duran led off the second inning for Aledo with a single to center, went to second on a ground out and scored when a couple of wild pitches moved him to third and home. Nowrocki, who had 2 of the 3 hits for the Bearcats, homered to lead off the sixth and Aledo added another run later in the inning when Luke Gladchuk was hit by a pitch and scored on another wild pitch.

Pickard also pitched and allowed 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 5 batters in 7 innings. Austin Gallogly pitched the eighth inning and struck out all 3 batters he faced.

Ethan Tucker doubled with 1 out in the fourth for Benbrook (23-12-1). Tucker went to third on a single to right by Brennan Barton before being lifted for courtesy runner Cameron Crampton.
