Euless Trinity baseball trailed Midland Legacy 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1 of the Class 6A Division I area round Thursday when Rylan Alaniz stepped up to the plate.

The crowd chanted “Home run! Home run!” as if fans knew Alaniz had the power to change everything with one swing, and that’s just what he did. Alaniz hit a walk-off home run and flipped his bat as the crowd at Brownwood High School erupted.

His teammates, seemingly stunned by the magnitude of the moment, swarmed him at home plate and dumped Gatorade on Alaniz in celebration of the 5-4 victory.

Game 2 is slated for 7 p.m. Friday at Brownwood. If necessary, Game 3 will be played at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brownwood.

Euless Trinity (22-11-4) has had a strong season and posted a 12-4 record in District 4-6A, one of the most competitive groups in Texas. The Trojans finished second in district behind Keller, a Class 6A state championship front-runner.

It’s been quite the turnaround for Trinity. The Trojans finished 14-14-2 overall and 2-11 in District 4-6A in 2025 and hadn’t posted a winning district record since the 2019 season.

Alaniz, who was named the 2025 District 4-6A MVP with a .450 average as a junior, is a Texas State pledge.
