Weatherford ISD names former Keller Timber Creek coach as next head coach
Weatherford ISD announced former Timber Creek head coach Marshall Williams as Weatherford High School’s next head football coach Thursday.
Williams, who has spent the previous two seasons as an offensive coordinator at Lucas Lovejoy under seven-time state champion Todd Dodge, is replacing Aubrey Sims, who departed for Alvarado, a Class 4A power in recent years.
Leaving Lovejoy is bittersweet, Williams said, due to his history coaching with the Dodge family.
‘It’s tough to leave such a great program and a person that I’ve looked up to,” Williams said. “ ... It has been the greatest honor of my career to coach underneath [Todd Dodge].”
Williams added that he is “really excited” about coaching the Kangaroos.
“I’ve got a lot of ties there with family and friends,” Williams said. “A lot of great history in my opinion in that town. A great place to settle up and have my family make that home.”
At the Class 6A level, a one-school, one-district town is fairly rare. Weatherford is one of three in the Fort Worth area (Southlake Carroll and Aledo). The passion for athletic success is there, Williams said, and the community wants to be involved.
It may take some time to build the program up; Williams will inherit a Kangaroo team that went 1-9 in 2025 and 0-6 in a grueling District 3-6A slate. The 2026 UIL realignment gives the Roos an escape from North Crowley; they’ll face schools like Aledo and Arlington Bowie in district play for the next two seasons.
Williams said he plans on using everything he’s learned in his career from former Southlake Carroll head coaches Riley Dodge and Todd Dodge and more to help build Weatherford back.
“It’s making sure that kids that are in Weatherford are proud about being a Weatherford Kangaroo,” Williams said. “And they stay there. And they are proud of the place. And there aren’t schools around the area that they would rather be at.”
Williams emphasized the importance of all-around athletic success — not just football. He said he hopes athletes play multiple sports and rally behind the community.
“I want kids involved,” Williams said. “I want kids to compete. I want kids to be proud to be here because it’s a fantastic community.”
From 2020 until 2023, Williams served as Keller Timber Creek’s head coach. He led the Falcons to a 5-2 district record and a playoff appearance in District 4-6A in his final season there.
Before, he had stints at Southlake Carroll, White Settlement Brewer, Cedar Ridge, Keller, Richland and Burleson.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Williams to Weatherford ISD and to Roo Nation,” athletic director Scott Curran said via press release. “He is a proven leader who understands how to build a program the right way, which is through discipline, relationships and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. We believe he is the right person to lead our football program forward.”
