Fort Worth-area state champion basketball coach heads for college ranks
Midwestern State announced Monday that Decatur girls basketball head coach Drew Coffman will be the program’s next women’s head coach.
Coffman, fresh off winning back-to-back Class 4A Division I state championships with the Eagles, is a Midwestern State alum and played basketball there, averaging 17 points in the 2006-07 season. The school, located in Wichita Falls, has a Division II women’s basketball program.
Coffman was recently named the 2025-26 Star-Telegram Fort Worth-area Girls Basketball Head Coach of the Year. He is the 13th head coach in Midwestern State’s history and ends his high school basketball career with a 476-146 overall record.
He has coached at Decatur since 2012. He led the boys team for nearly a decade and took over the girls program in 2021, establishing the Eagles as local powerhouse. Coffman has also coached boys basketball at Hico High School, Kermit High School and Eaton High School.
