Courtney Allen has been named the head football coach at Mansfield Legacy High School, Mansfield ISD Athletics announced Friday.

He takes over for Jeff Hulme, who departed to join Art Briles’ staff at Eastern New Mexico University.

Allen was most recently the head coach at Mesquite Horn from 2022 to 2024, posting a 15-16 overall record. He spent the 2025 season in an administrative role.

With Legacy, he has a chance to compete for district titles. The Broncos are dropping down to Class 5A Division II after a year when they showed improvement at the Class 6A level. The Broncos posted a 4-6 record in 2025 after a 3-8 record in 2024.

Although the record doesn’t showcase a massive jump, the Broncos’ competitive play in a district where most teams improved is a sign of growth. Playing against easier competition in a group without North Crowley could lead to a successful season.

Before his time at Horn, he led North Crowley from 2018 to 2021, setting the foundation for the Panthers’ unrivaled success. When Ray Gates took over the Panther program, he inherited a talented roster that included quarterback Chris Jimerson Jr., who broke onto the scene under Allen in 2021.

Prior to his time as a head coach, he had a stint at Lancaster as a defensive coordinator.
