The inclement weather in the Fort Worth area has greatly impacted the high school basketball schedule.

After a flurry of changes to the Tuesday schedule, more games are being postponed due to campus closures on Wednesday. Many games that were pushed to Wednesday will now have be rescheduled again.

Fort Worth ISD is switching all games originally scheduled for Tuesday to Thursday. Many districts will have to follow suit.

UIL basketball rules state:

“District varsity basketball games postponed by weather or public disaster (not including illness) shall be rescheduled on the next date, other than Sunday, on which another district game is not scheduled. In the event weather or public disaster forces the makeup game to be rescheduled, it shall be rescheduled on the next date as described earlier.

“These makeup games may be played as exceptions to the school week and calendar week limitations. District varsity games that are postponed by weather or public disaster, and not played on the next available date, shall be rescheduled and played on a date determined by the District Executive Committee.”

Teams will be permitted to play on Thursday and Friday, if necessary.

UIL rules do not prohibit games from being played on days when school is closed due to weather. However, districts may cancel or restrict extracurricular activities as part of a campus closure, which would override the UIL’s “next available date” rule.

A few districts, such as Arlington ISD and Mansfield ISD, are monitoring conditions on Wednesday to determine the status of after-school activities.
