Northwest ISD Athletics announced Wednesday that Zach Woodward will officially serve as Byron Nelson’s head football coach, removing the interim label from his title.

Woodward was named the interim head coach following Travis Pride’s death in May. Pride had been the team’s head coach since 2016.

Under Woodward’s leadership, the Bobcats finished this season with a 10-3 record and a regional round appearance in the Class 6A Division II playoffs. Byron Nelson fell to Denton Guyer 24-21 on Friday on a last-second field goal.

Before this season, Woodward served as Pride’s defensive coordinator. Now, trust has been placed in his hands to maintain what has become one of the strongest programs in Dallas-Fort Worth. Over the past four seasons, Byron Nelson has a 42-9 record, and even holds a regular-season win over Southlake Carroll.

The moment of the season for Woodward and the Bobcats was a strong 38-13 victory over Euless Trinity, a traditional state power.
