Trophy Club Byron Nelson head football coach Travis Pride died, according to Northwest ISD. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Pride, who was hired at Byron Nelson in 2016, led the Bobcats to a 60-45 overall record in nine seasons. The program’s crowning achievement came in 2023, when the Bobcats stunned Southlake Carroll to win the District 4-6A championship.
Byron Nelson football announced Pride’s death on X:
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our head coach, Travis Pride. Please keep the Pride family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Since 2021, the Bobcats have been a leader in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, boasting a 32-6 overall record. In the past two seasons, the Bobcat’s sole losses have come against North Crowley, the 2024 Class 6A Division I state champion, and Southlake Carroll, the 2024 Class 6A Division II runner-up.
Before his time at Byron Nelson, Pride served as the head coach of Wichita Falls and Mansfield Summit. Earlier in his career, he served as an assistant at Southlake Carroll.
Northwest ISD sent a letter to parents informing them of Pride’s death. In that letter, Northwest ISD Director of Athletics Joel Johnson spoke about Pride.
“When I think of Travis Pride, I think of someone who supported student activity, from athletic programs to fine arts,” Johnson said. “Coach Pride lacked an ego when it came to the athletic programs at Byron Nelson. He wasn’t what you would picture as a head football coach, as he was an even-tempered leader who was a kid magnet – students wanted to be around him, because he cared about them.”
