Southlake Carroll offensive lineman Tristan Dare, arguably the best junior OL prospect in the Fort Worth-area, announced his commitment to Michigan on Monday.

The Star-Telegram caught up with Dare for an exclusive interview. He said when he visited campus, he knew Michigan was the place for him because of its player development, academics, culture and its reputation for having an elite offensive line.

“Out of all the schools I visited this summer, spring, and even last year, I went to about 20 different schools,” Dare said. “And I really enjoyed a lot of those schools. ... But nothing quite stood out the way the Wolverines did.”

Dare has a 6-foot-4, 290 pound frame and is rated as the No. 62 class of 2026 recruit in Texas by 247Sports. He is the Star-Telegram’s No. 5 offensive lineman to watch, which is the highest ranking for a junior.

Coaches have told Dare he stands out as a recruit for four main reasons: athleticism with size, football IQ, physicality and versatility. He plays tackle in high school but could switch to the interior.

As a sophomore, Dare earned a Star-Telegram All-Area honorable mention selection and s spot on the District 4-6A First Team. He had offers from Texas Tech, Baylor, Penn State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Ohio State, North Carolina and many more.

Dare is the second Fort Worth-area recruit to commit to the Wolverines this summer. He’ll join Mansfield senior wide receiver standout Zion Robinson as a Michigan pledge.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Southlake Carroll has sky-high expectations. The Dragons are the No. 1-ranked Class 6A team by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

“(Expectations) are insanely high, to be honest,” Dare said. “Coach (Riley Dodge) does a great job making sure we’re all levelheaded. Just steady. We’re ranked but that’s the expectation. Now, go prove it with your work ethic.”

In 2024, Carroll made a state championship appearance with a young squad. Now, they’ve got plenty of returning talent; Dare will be part of an area-leading offensive line unit that will operate around some of the top skill players in the area, including senior receiver Brock Boyd, an Ohio State commit.

“(The offensive line) will probably do it better than anyone in the state,” Dare said. “We have four of the five guys from last year coming back. A lot of experience playing together. And secondly, we know each other very well. We grew up together. ... We’re all connected in a way that’s unique to us. That chemistry is very helpful.”
