Class 5A Girls’ Discuss: Fort Worth South Hills athlete takes silver
Fort Worth South Hills’ Kennedy Haynes had a solid performance in the Class 5A Discuss, picking up second place.
Her second throw was the longest with a 139-8 mark. She had four penalties but did more than enough to secure second place and a silver medal representing Fort Worth ISD. She bested Crandall’s Carly Fendley by six inches. Brielle Lawson of Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated won the state championship with a throw of 152-4.
Class 5A Boys’ Discuss: Colleyville Heritage athlete takes bronze
Colleyville Heritage senior Matthew Udemba’s third throw was a great one — great enough to earn him a third place finish in the boys’ Class 5A discus.
He recorded a 180-0 mark, which was less than a foot more than the fourth-place finisher, John Michael Martin of Lucas Lovejoy. CJ Williams of Frisco Heritage secured first place (201-4).
Argyle dominates pole vault
In the Class 5A pole vault events, Argyle athletics soared past the competition.
In the boys group, Argyle senior Gator Young recorded a 16-6.00 mark to win the Class 5A boys’ pole vault state title. Connor Skopik of Montgomery Lake Creek and Caden O’Hara of Leander Rouse came in second with a 16-00.00 mark.
Aledo’s Braylon Brown also competed, barely missing the podium and taking fourth place (15-6.00).
In the girls’ group, Argyle senior Peyton Berry took the state title with a mark of 12-3.00. The second place finisher, Abigail Rydberg of Lake Belton, was three inches short of the gold.
Class 4A, 3A
On Thursday, May 1, the Class 3A and 4A events took place at Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium. Here are the things to know about Fort Worth-area athletes.
Class 4A Girls’ 100-meter
Fort Worth Dunbar junior Trinity Braziel Davis thrived at the UIL Texas track and field championships.
She posted a fantastic time of 11.64 seconds in the 100-meter dash, seizing first place and a state championship for the Dunbar Wildcats.
She qualified in 12.04 seconds at the Class 4A Region One meet, and with a state title on the line, greatly improved her performance. She gained a slight edge on her competition, besting the rest of the field by 0.05 seconds or more.
Class 4A Boys’ High Jump
In the Class 4A high jump, Glen Rose senior Colton Andress became a champion. He set a personal record, jumping with a 6-11.00 mark to claim the title.
Andress bested Frisco Panther Creek junior Jalen Lott, a 247Sports four-star football prospect. He has offers from several high level college football programs including Texas, Ohio State, USC, Georgia, TCU and more. Lott recorded 6-10.00 mark, missing a state championship by an inch.
Class 5A Boys’ Pole Vault
In the Class 4A boys’ pole vault, Decatur’s Parker Williams thrived.
He recorded a 15-06.00 mark, taking first place and a gold medal representing Decatur ISD. Willaims qualified with a 14-06.00 throw. At the state meet, he greatly improved his performance when it mattered most to secure the state title.
