Grapevine 48, Fort Worth North Side 0
Rondale Carridine had a monster game for Grapevine racking up 273 total yards and four scores as Grapevine rolled right past Fort Worth North Side 48-0.
The scoring started early and often for Grapevine (1-2, 1-0 District 4-5A Division II), which picked up its first win of the season after two close losses in Weeks 1 and 2.
Carridine had 146 yards on three carries and two scores for a Grapevine team that bullied North Side with 317 total yards rushing. He also added four catches for 127 yards and two more scores.
Grapevine will head into the Battle of the Red Rail in Week six against Colleyville Heritage, a game it won 44-26 last season.
The Colony 27, Denton Ryan 20
For the first time in the Rudy Rangel era – spanning 19 years – The Colony took down state-ranked Denton Ryan on Thursday night that’s to a 20-point run in the second half to a 27-20 win.
Despite giving up a pick-six in the first quarter and trailing 20-7 at the half, The Colony (2-3, 2-1 District 3-5A DII) kept its poise and mounted a ferocious comeback starting with a second half-opening drive that took just 1:44 off the clock to close the game to 20-14.
The Colony held Ryan (3-1, 2-1) to just 95 yard of offense in the second and, most importantly, off the scoreboard while Carson Cox manufactured two more scoring drives – one capped off on a run that gave The Colony the lead and another through the air for the second time to Chase Glover to extend the lead.
Mansfield Summit 49, Burleson 11
It was all Mansfield Summit as the Jaguars (3-2, 2-0 District 5-5A Division II) rolled to a 49-11 win over Burleson thanks to the spectacular running game from Amare Burgess. Burgess rushed for 289 yards and three scores on just 12 carries (24.1 yards per carry) as Summit outgained the Elks (0-5, 0-2) 493 to 219.
After a punt by Burleson and both teams trading interceptions, Summit finally got on the board midway through the first quarter on an 84-yard touchdown by Burgess. From there, it was all Summit as it scored 28 straight in the first half and took a 28-3 lead going into the half.
It was more of the same as the Jaguars added 14 in the third to lead 42-3 after three and cruise to the win.
Crowley 27, Hurst L.D. Bell 20
What looked to be a shootout-in-the-making turned into a defensive struggle in the second half as Crowley survived a late surge to beat LD Bell 27-20 in a battle of unbeatens.
Caleb Williams was 23 of 26 for 380 yards with four passing scores to lead the Eagles (5-0, 2-0 District 3-6A) to the thrilling win over Bell (4-1, 1-1). The teams combined for 33 points in the second quarter as Crowley held a 27-13 lead at the break, but each defense turned up in the second half as the Blue Raiders were the only team able to score in the half on an 8-yard touchdown run by Maddox Olatunde.
Crowley tried to run as much clock as possible and extend its lead but were stopped on fourth down at the Bell 17 with 4:01 remaining. Bell then gave the ball back to Crowley as a third down pass was intercepted with 1:02 to play, which sealed the win for the Eagles.
Southlake Carroll 66, Haltom 14
Southlake Carroll put up 729 total yards, including 210 yards on the ground from Davis Penn, to blow out Haltom 66-14. Penn led the Dragons (5-0, 2-0 District 4-6A) with three rushing scores and Angelo Renda passed for 274 yards and three more scores as Carroll had little trouble getting by the Haltom defense.
Every first half possession for the Dragons ended in a score on the way to a 45-7 lead at the half. Ashton Moore completed six of his 14 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown for lead Haltom (1-3, 1-1) along with Devan Ramirez Powell with 96 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
Arlington Bowie 56, Arlington Sam Houston 6
Arlington Bowie turned a close game at the half into a route as it scored 22 points in both the third and fourth quarter on the way to a 57-6 win to open 8-6A play.Bowie (3-2, 1-0 District 8-6A) led just 13-0 at the half but then scored three straight touchdowns in the third to blow open the game and lead 35-6 going into the fourth.
The Volunteers outgained the Texans (0-5, 0-1) 477-188 led by the rushing attack trio of Darrion Bowers, Rafeald Campbell and Denzel Ponder, who combined for 272 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Campbell also passed for 89 yards on just seven attempts and added a touchdown to Dillon Jackson during that third quarter run.
Vin Canales led Sam Houston offensively with 126 yards passing and score and added 41 yards on the ground.
Anna 38, Fort Worth All Saints 20
Anna held All Saints’ rushing attack in check as it handed the Saints its first loss of the season 38-20 on Friday night. Despite Keldon Ryan throwing for 323 yards and three scores, All Saints (4-1) was held to minus-7 yards on the ground as Anna scored the game’s first three touchdowns to lead 21-0 going into the half.
All Saints was able to cut the lead down to 24-20 with 9:27 left in the fourth but could not complete the comeback as Ziondre Williams added a 43-yard touchdown pass with 7:54 left in the frame and George Rogers had a rushing TD with 4:50 to play to seal the win for Anna.
Ryan’s top connection on the night was Dougie Dodard, who hauled in seven passes for 134 yards and had two touchdowns on the night.
Aledo 70, Saginaw 0
Aledo continued its domination of district play, winning its 114th straight district game with a 70-0 trouncing of Saginaw. Hauss Hejny threw as many touchdowns (4) as he did incompletions and 288 yards passing to lead the Bearcats to (5-0, 3-0 District 3-5A Division I) to the win.
Aledo scored 39 points in the first quarter and could have stopped there but added 28 more in the second quarter to lead 67-0 at the break, which included a scoop-and-score from defensive end Brody Adams.
The 67 points in the half are reported to be a team record for points scored in a half. Aledo will take on The Colony in Week six as it looks to continue its district winning streak.
