Arlington Martin cornerback Javien Toviano, No. 1 player in the area, commits to LSU

Arlington Martin 4-star cornerback Javien Toviano announced his commitment to LSU on Thursday in front of friends, family and the media at Martin High School.

Toviano, who was also presented with his Under Armour All-American jersey, chose LSU over Texas, Texas A&M and Michigan. He said he will be enrolling at LSU in January.

“Felt much like home. They made me feel like a priority the last 6 to 8 months,” Toviano said. “I didn’t really see it at first, I didn’t know how I would fit in their system and they showed me how I would fit and some of the things they do. We know its [defensive back university] and to be a defensive back from Texas, I wanted to be a part of that mantra.”

According to 247Sports composite, Toviano is rated as the No. 6 cornerback in the country among the Class of 2023. He’s the ninth ranked player in the state and 56th ranked player in the nation.

“Go take a picture of him and ask what an SEC cornerback or for that matter what an NFL cornerback looks like, it’s Javien Toviano,” Martin coach Bob Wager said.

Toviano entered the season as the No. 1 high school football player in the Fort Worth area.

Before he narrowed his college choice, Toviano had 34 offers with 28 from a Power Five school, including TCU.

“The atmosphere is electric and everyone in Baton Rouge loves LSU football,” Toviano said. “It’s a fan base that gets around the school and they’re die hard fans and that’s something that’s special to me.”

Toviano amassed 105 tackles in 35 games during the past three seasons with 83 solo tackles, three interceptions, 18 pass deflections, five forced fumbles and three recoveries.

He put up 27 solo tackles, 38 total tackles, two interceptions, three deflections, two forced fumbles and one recovery this season as the Warriors went 10-2, won the 8-6A championship and went to the area round.

The All-American game will be Jan. 3 in Orlando.

Wager will be on Toviano’s team as the defensive coordinator.

“I’ve been coaching the Under Armour game for the past 10 years,” Wager said. “Great to have the opportunity to coach him for one more week.”
