Here are 10 Fort Worth-area high school football players to watch in Week 8
Week 8 of the Texas high school football season starts Thursday and expect more great performances from Fort Worth-area football players.
Keep an eye out for these 10 players this week:
Marcus Bryan, Jr., LB, Lake Worth: Bryan was very instrumental in the Bullfrogs’ Week 7 upset win over Kennedale. Bryan had seven solo tackles, 12 total, three for loss and a forced fumble. Lake Worth beat Kennedale for the first time since 1999.
Hunter McCoy, Jr, QB, FS, Weatherford Christian: The Lions got a huge win over Lubbock Christian and McCoy played a big part. He totaled 260 yards and three touchdowns and made 11 tackles on defense. McCoy has over 1,900 yards on offense and 24 TDs. He also has 37 tackles and five interceptions on defense.
Drelon Burton, Jr., RB, Arlington: Burton has been on a roll the last two games for the Colts. Last week in a 57-48 win over Bowie, Burton rushed for 154 yards and a career-high five TDs. Over the past two games, Burton has rushed for 367 yards on 49 carries. He has 711 yards rushing and 10 TDs this season.
Brett Tutter, Jr., RB, Brock: Tutter scored twice in Brock’s last game, a 49-14 win over Peaster to pick up the Eagles second straight win. He was a part of a rushing attack that gained 307 yards on the ground. Brock blew out Whitesboro twice last week, including in the regional final in December, when Tutter rushed for 94 yards and three TDs. Brock will look to do the same this week against Whitesboro.
Jake Wilson, Sr., QB, Byron Nelson: Wilson continues to be among the top quarterbacks in the state. Last week against Haltom, Wilson threw for 285 yards, rushed for another 82 and accounted for seven TDs. Through seven weeks, Wilson is second in the area with 1,983 yards and second with 23 TD tosses.
Gus Fleming-Wood, Sr., LB, Mansfield: GFW made 14 tackles and one sack, one tackle for loss and an interception as the Tigers beat Cedar Hill to stay undefeated. He’s among the area’s leading defenders this season with 77 total tackles. GFW has made 10 or more tackles in each of the past four games.
Tre Guerra, Sr., QB, Keller: The Central Arkansas had a big game and the Indians were minutes away from their best win in the past decade, coming up short 38-35 against No. 4 Southlake Carroll. Guerra threw for a season-high 313 yards against the Dragons. Over the past three games, he has thrown for 309, 214 and 313 yards with seven TDs.
Kaden Brown, Sr., QB, Midlothian Heritage: Brown, who’s committed to South Dakota State, threw for 345 yards and five TDs in the Jaguars win over Mansfield Summit. Brown is one of five QBs in the Fort Worth area that has thrown for 20 TDs this season.
Kennen Miller, Soph., QB, Lake Ridge: Miller set highs in his young career with 544 yards passing and six TDs against Skyline. He’ll look to continue his hot streak this week against DeSoto. Miller has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 14 TDs this season for the Eagles.
Elijah Zeh, Sr., RB, Burleson Centennial: Zeh had a big night on the ground with 128 yards rushing and two TDs in the Spartans big upset win over Denton Ryan, that handed the Raiders their first district loss since 2014.
