Colleyville Heritage begins district play strong with win over Fort Worth Trimble Tech
Colleyville Heritage started District 4-5A Division 1 play with a resounding win over Fort Worth Trimble Tech, 57-0, on Thursday night at Farrington Field.
The Panthers, No. 3 in the latest Class 5A area rankings, improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in district.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-2 and 0-1.
“The kids are playing hard, being aggressive,” Colleyville Heritage head coach Kirk Martin said. “We just gotta be smart and clean some of that up. At the end of the day we’re 1-0, it’s just what we’re set out to do, 1-0 in district and we just go on from there.”
The Panthers’ success started early when Ryan Keleher, Heritage’s running back, scored the first touchdown of the evening, with 10:34 left in the first quarter. Ryan Zuckert scored the extra point, which brought the score to 7-0.
The Panthers’ quarterback, Luke Ullrich, made a 7-yard touchdown pass 3-star BYU committed tight end Saimone Davis 8:00 mark in the first quarter.
Davis is a member of the Star-Telegram Top 100.
Once again, the extra point was good, bringing the score to 14-0.
The touchdowns just kept coming at 3:53 left in the opening period as Hayden Golden scored and after the extra point, the score was 21-0 going into the second quarter.
The second began and at the 10:35 mark, wide receiver Daniel Gonzalez scored another touchdown for Colleyville Heritage, 27-0. Defensive back Bryon Burgess intercepted the Bulldogs’ pass at the 10-yard line and then ran it in for a touchdown, bringing the score to 35-0 after the extra point with 9:42 left in the frame.
Panthers’ wide receiver, Joseph Hillard scored a touchdown with 3:05 to play in the second. Once again, Zuckert made the extra point which brought the score to 42-0. Colleyville Heritage’s defense pushed through Trimble Tech’s O-line which caused a safety with 10 seconds left before intermission, ending the half with a score of 44-0.
The second half started much like the first with a touchdown by Keleher with 7:26 left in the third. The score was then 50-0. Another touchdown was made with 5:16 to play in the third, this time by Ty Golden and after the extra point, the score was 57-0.
Ullrich threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns while Keleher rushed for 64 yards and two scores.
