Week 2 recap

Boswell 41, Lake Ridge 20

Boswell turned a tied game at the half into a blowout in the second, scoring 21 unanswered points in a 41-20 home win over Mansfield Lake Ridge on Friday night.

The Pioneers (2-0) and Eagles (1-1), No. 8 and No. 9 in the 6A area rankings this week, played the first half very close, with three lead changes and two ties before the break.

In the second half, though, Boswell’s defense completely shut down Lake Ridge’s offense by forcing three punts, a turnover on downs and a late interception.

Sawyer Farr spearheaded the Boswell attack, passing for 388 yards and five touchdowns – two going to Gage Ellis and Kairel Roberton each. Ellis and Robertson had 174 and 150 yards receiving respectively.

Richland 52, Haltom 29

A 20-point first quarter helped Richland win big over Haltom 52-29 on Friday night. Michael Turner and Bryce Morton were the big reasons why Richland (2-0) jumped on Haltom (0-2) early, as each helped with two scores each – two rushing by Turner; two passing by Morton.

Richland led 27-7 late in the second quarter before Haltom got on the board. However, the point after attempt was blocked and returned the other way to put Richland up 29-13.

The Royals took the ensuing kick and marched right down the field for another late score to go up 37-13 thanks to Morton’s third passing touchdown on the night.

He finished 14-of-22 passing for 254 yards to lead the Royals. Turner went for 14 carries, 178 yards and three scores. Jeramiah Sanders led the Buffalos with six catches for 111 yards and one touchdown, and Devan Powel rushed for 87 yards and touchdown.

Mansfield Timberview 69, Sam Houston 14

At Choctaw Stadium, Javeon Madison and Jaylon Woods each rushed for two touchdowns in Mansfield Timberview’s 69-14 dominating win over Arlington Sam Houston Thursday night.

Timberview (2-0) rolled Sam Houston by scoring on nine of its 10 possessions, including converting two fumble recoveries in the second quarter into touchdowns on the way to a 42-7 halftime lead.

The Wolves rushed for a combined 314 yards and held the Texans to just 171 total yards.

Jarvis Reed, No. 42 in the Star-Telegram Top 100, was highly efficient on the ground for Timberview with six carries for 92 yards and one score.

North Crowley 17, Arlington 14

A fourth quarter field goal was the difference in a tightly contested 17-14 win for North Crowley over Arlington at Choctaw on Friday night.

North Crowley (2-0) never trailed in the game, but never held a lead greater than one possession over the Colts.

The teams traded scores with the Panthers striking first on a Chris Jimerson pass to Xavier Alexander from 44 yards out. Arlington (1-1) responded with a 10-yard run by Sam Semi.

The Panthers pulled ahead 14-7 on another Jimerson touchdown pass to Alexander. Just when it looked like North Crowley might start to distance itself from Arlington, the Colts blocked a punt late in the half and recovered it for a score to go into halftime tied at 14-14.

The teams played even until the fourth quarter where Anthony Pope drilled a 41-yard field goal to give North Crowley the 17-14 lead. The Panthers were led by Dejuan Lacy with 25 carries for 145 yards and Alexander with five catches, 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Carroll 38, Marcus 7

Owen Allen, Southlake Carroll’s all-time leading rusher, tacked on 213 more yards to his career totals and two scores to help propel Southlake Carroll to a 38-7 win over Flower Mound Marcus.

His first score came midway through the first quarter as he took the hand off from Kaden Anderson and raced to the end zone for a 60-yard TD.

After Marcus (0-2) cut the Dragons’ lead to 14-7 early in the second and the defenses battled for a bit, Allen, No. 3 in the S-T 100, found the end zone again, this time from four yards out with 38 seconds left to push Carroll’s halftime lead to 21-7. It then became the Kaden Anderson show as he produced two second half touchdowns to finish the game with three on top of his 210 yards passing.

Anderson, a 3-star Wyoming commit, is No. 13 in the S-T 100.

Carroll (2-0) made Marcus one dimensional on offense, only allowing 15 yards rushing on 23 attempts.

Arlington Martin 44, Cedar Hill 6

There was little resistance for Arlington Martin as it trounced Cedar Hill 44-6 on Friday night at Longhorn Stadium. Martin (2-0), No. 11 in the 6A state rankings, got a fumble return for a touchdown by Keller Webb from the Cedar Hill 33 to go up 7-0.

Cedar Hill (0-2) responded a couple of minutes later, but it was all Warriors from there.

Martin scored late in the first quarter that saw the Warriors end the game on a 37-point scoring run, which included two pick-sixes. The Martin offense tallied just under 300 yards of offense and got 9-of-13 passing from Tristan Bittle and two scores to help lead the way. Zaire Barrow added 47 yards on the ground and a score.

Jaylen Jenkins was the lone bright spot for Cedar Hill with 19 carries for 105 yards and a score.

Granbury 17, Lake Worth 16

In a defensive battle, Granbury edged past Lake Worth with a 17-16 win. Lake Worth held a 16-14 lead going into the fourth quarter after blocking a field goal attempt in the third to preserve the lead.

Granbury would grab the fourth quarter lead on a 34-yard field goal by Drew Henderson midway through the quarter. Granbury’s defense shut down the Bullfrogs’ offense on the ensuing drive to retain the lead and allow Granbury’s offense to kill the remainder of the clock.

Mansfield 57, Summit 7

From the opening moments, it was all Mansfield in a 57-7 beat down over rival Mansfield Summit at Newsom Stadium. James Johnson broke off a 62-yard touchdown run on Mansfield’s first play from scrimmage. He finished with seven carries for 165 yards and two scores.

It was the only score of the first quarter for the Tigers (2-0) before going off for 29 in the second quarter to lead 36-7 at the half. Jacob Hayes had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown in that stretch for Mansfield.

The scoring didn’t stop there, though, as the Tigers scored another 21 points in the third to completely put the game to bed. Summit (0-2) only managed 139 yards of offense and nine first downs while Mansfield racked up a combined 322 yards rushing on 37 attempts.

Sergio Kennedy was highly efficient for Mansfield, completing 11 of his 14 attempts for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
