As the Joshua Owls and Fort Worth Arlington Heights Yellowjackets stormed out of their locker rooms, both teams had the same mindset entering their season opener; start off with a win.

It was Arlington Heights that came home with the victory, 49-31, on Thursday night at Farrington Field.

The Yellowjackets (1-0) struck first with a touchdown on their opening drive with quarterback Eric Orozco throwing to wide receiver Tymir Biscoe on his very first pass attempt of the season with 10:18 left in the first quarter.

Joshua (0-1) rebounded with a screen pass by quarterback Jaydin Pool to wide receiver Tim Martin with 8:25 left in the first quarter. The extra point was unsuccessful, making the game 7-6.

Arlington Heights running back Bryan Furch ran in a 6-yard touchdown to extend his team’s lead 14-6 with 3:24 to go in the first quarter. But the Owls would go on to score back-to-back drives and take the lead in the second quarter to make it 18-14.

However, Arlington Heights had a plan to stick by.

“You just tell them to keep playing and minimize mistakes because it’s only a four-point game and we can easily catch momentum back,” Arlington Heights head coach Phil Young said coming out of halftime.

That’s exactly what his team did.

The Yellowjackets would recover an onside kick to start the third quarter and put their offense in business. Zach Garcia scored a rushing touchdown with 9:53 to go in the third quarter, putting the score at 21-18 Yellowjackets.

A trick play put the Owls back in front as they scored a 20-yard passing touchdown with 8:55 left in the third quarter. But a 4-yard scoring rush into the end zone by Brandon Monroe gave the Yellowjackets a 28-24 lead with 5:58 remaining in the third quarter.

Tymir Biscoe made a spectacular grab in the end zone over an Owl defensive back to extend the Yellowjackets lead to 35-24. A 27-yard rush by Joshua’s Ayden Groce shortened the deficit to 35-31 with 3:38 left in the period.

Furch ran in his second touchdown with 11:47 to go in the fourth that made it 42-31. Heights sealed its win with Furch’s third rushing TD of the game late in the game.
